Election Observation Support

Traversals has set up the Election Observation Support [EOS] service to monitor the transparency and credibility of electoral processes. Relevant data sources are queried at regular intervals, information is collected, machine-translated, selected, categorized and enriched with structured data. The processed information is offered as a live feed and also as a corpus of historical data without dedicated further analysis. Appropriate interfaces enable the integration of the information into customers’ systems. The service can be accessed as SaaS hosted in the EU cloud with a web client or via the API.

Introduction

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) need a system to monitor the transparency and credibility of electoral processes to ensure fair and free elections. In many countries, electoral processes can be fraught with irregularities, including voter intimidation, election fraud, and violence. These practices can undermine democracy and erode public trust in the electoral process.

By monitoring news and social media, NGOs can detect irregularities in real-time and raise concerns with the appropriate authorities. For example, in the case of the 2020 presidential elections in Burundi, monitoring news and social media could have helped NGOs to identify irregularities, including voter intimidation and violence, which ultimately impacted the credibility of the election.

NGOs can also use the data collected from their monitoring efforts to advocate for improvements in the electoral process. By publishing reports on their findings, NGOs can draw attention to issues and make recommendations for changes that could improve the transparency and credibility of future elections.

Furthermore, a system for monitoring the transparency and credibility of electoral processes can help to promote international standards for democratic elections. By establishing best practices and sharing them globally, NGOs can help to promote transparency, fairness, and impartiality in electoral processes worldwide.

In summary, NGOs need a system to monitor the transparency and credibility of electoral processes to ensure that elections are free, fair, and transparent. By monitoring news and social media, NGOs can detect irregularities in real-time, advocate for improvements in the electoral process, and promote international standards for democratic elections.
